"I am very pleased that the sports metropolis of Berlin will be the venue for the European Indoor Women's Hockey Championships. The participating teams will find optimal conditions in the capital. I am keeping my fingers crossed for the German team to defend their title. The Berliners are an enthusiastic audience and will support our female hockey athletes to the best of their ability," said Iris Spranger, Berlin's Senator of the Interior and Sports.

Martin Schultze, Sports Director of the DHB, is also looking forward to the European Indoor Championships in Berlin: "We are very happy that the European Indoor Hockey Championships will once again take place in Germany after the successful title matches in Hamburg in 2022. Berlin as the venue is of course very special due to the men's team's last success in 2020. We as an indoor hockey nation are really looking forward to the European Championship and are pursuing the goal of defending the title with the women. We would like to thank the city of Berlin for supporting the bid," says Martin Schultze, sports director of the German Hockey Federation."

Danas coaching team with Dominic Giskes and Markus Weise

The coaching team of the German national women's team for the European Indoor Hockey Championships will see a new face in Berlin. Dominic Giskes, national base coach Cologne and national coach U16 (male), will lead the team as head coach. He will be supported by Markus Weise, who has a proven track record as coach of the German national teams.

Women's head coach Altenburg, who will be in Argentina with the women's national team at the same time, was able to find his ideal replacement in Giskes and Weise: "I am very pleased that Dominic and Markus agreed to join us immediately. Dominic is a great German coaching talent and a tactician to boot. It is very good that he can now gain experience at his first major international tournament. Moreover, Dominic and Markus both love indoor hockey. Best conditions for another indoor hockey highlight in front of a home crowd."

"It is a great honour to coach the women's senior national team at such an international tournament. I am looking forward to this project because we have great hockey players and with Markus Weise I have a coach at my side who has been able to celebrate success like no other. It will be my first international tournament with a women's team. With a home European Championship in the capital, there can hardly be better conditions," says Dominic Giskes, looking forward to his role as head coach of the women's team at the 2024 European Indoor Championships.

Markus Weise, his co-coach at this tournament, adds: "During the last national coaches' meeting, Martin Schultze and Valentin Altenburg asked whether I could imagine coaching the Danas at the 2024 European Indoor Championships together with Dominic Giskes. I was last involved in the men's team in Hamburg, together with Rein van Eijk. I'm looking forward to the project of conquering the European Championship title in 2024 with a young hungry Danas team."

Germany an indoor hockey nation

After Berlin 2020 (men's) and Hamburg 2022 (women's and men's), the 2024 European Women's Indoor Hockey Championships will already be the third European Indoor Championships in Germany this decade. The German men won the European Indoor Hockey Championship in Berlin 2020. The European Indoor Championships in Hamburg in 2022 were won by the German women. Germany is a true indoor hockey nation. European Indoor Hockey Championships have been held since 1974 for the men and 1975 for the women. Out of a possible 41 titles, the German national hockey team won the European indoor crown 32 times (16x women, 16x men).
